Kelsea Ballerini – “Club”

Nightlife has a sell-by date – and it’s not always everyone’s cup of tea. Country superstar Kelsea Ballerini slips away from the anxiety-inducing club scene for a sleepover with her girlfriends in a hotel room. With “Club,” the lead-in to her forthcoming third studio set, she opts for camaraderie rather than just getting drunk with a bunch of strangers.

“Yeah, I like my friends, yeah, I like tequila / I like puttin’ on a dress and dancin’ with my feelings,” she sings. “I could be the life of any party / I can play along with anybody.” She likes to party as much as the next person, and she quickly counters the good with all the bad that leaves such a bitter aftertaste. “I don’t wanna watch everybody around me try to hook up / And say stuff they don’t mean / And get drunk and get cheap,” she washes it all down on the hook.

“Club” (a co-write with Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins) is a bubbly elixir, an anthem for the introverts who’d rather play board games (and drink) with friends. Club life is overrated.
