When it comes to most underrated, ZZ Ward certainly is on that shortlist. Her voice is smoky jazz bars of the 1920s. It’s Janis Joplin at her most gutting. It’s shattering the glass ceiling and catapulting across the sky. Her new song “Break Her Heart” soaks in fervent electric guitar, a bluesy swing that cuts deep.
“I hope you break her heart / Like you broke mine,” she barks. The hook unpacks every single fray of her tattered heart; she’s been put through the wringer, and she’s unashamed to let you know how she really feels. It packs a primal punch right to the jaw line. Once again, Ward demonstrates her talents to grip you and never let go.
