Par for the course, Billie Eilish’s Bond theme called “No Time to Die” is polarizing. It’s more brooding, introspective, and intimate than one might expect – but even in such a soundscape, there’s a cool build to the production. Strings scratch and swirl around Eilish’s trusty, smokey alto, almost a film noir-ish tint cast over her shoulders.
“I let it burn / You’re no longer my concern / Faces from my past return / Another lesson yet to learn,” she purses her lips. The production shimmies, gentle movement to not give it all away upfront, and in the final crescendo, in which Eilish digs in her feet, it strikes an appropriate balance of cinema and tightly quaint.
