The world is ending, and Dixie Chicks grace us with their first single in 14 years. “Gaslighter” calls out singer-songwriter Natalie Maines’ ex-husband Adrian Pasdar, who squeezed her bank account dry in a messy divorce, and it could not have dropped at a more appropriate time in our culture.
But Maines, alongside Emily Robison and Martie Maguire, is taking back the conversation. The chorus sums it all up: “Gaslighter, denier / Doin’ anything to get your ass farther / Gaslight, big timer / Repeating all of the mistakes of your father / Gaslighter, you broke me / You’re sorry, but where’s my apology? / Gaslighter, you liar.”
