Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman is one of the year’s most anticipated features. Not only does the premise lineup a smart examination of rape-revenge stories, very much rooted in reality, but the music is shaping up to be a smorgasbord of many of today’s most promisng talents.
Cyn’s “Drinks” analyzes erratic, illogical anger of the male variety (think Brett Kavanaugh). “He got mad, so I got drinks,” she sloshes in potion of synth-pop and hip-hop. “No, I’m not walking around in circles worried about what he thinks / Out with my friend, drinking a drink,” she sings in a plainspoken, yet wry, fashion. “Alexa knows the bartender so all the drinks are free.”
