You’ve just gotta wallow in your heartbreak sometimes. And that’s OK. Pop-country newcomer Karen McCormick perfectly frames her new song, called “Heartbroken Girls,” in the tragic afterglow. It’s a groovy, somber little number that gives agency to her feelings with a dazzling, genre-melting approach. She also turns attention outward to celebrate her girlfriends who are going through the exact same emotional wringer.
“Yea we’re way too good at lyin’/ And we get nothing back but we’re still tryin / We’re in the varsity league of saying it’s okay / We got it down,” her voice packs an addicting sweetness like strawberry wine. She firmly accepts her feelings, as unruly as they might seem: “We’re good at being heartbroken girls / Good at being heartbroken girls.”
