There is a smoothness to Jake Hoot’s new song that’s mesmerizing. The country newcomer puts his song “Dangerous Thing” on a gentle simmer, and his voice, reedy in nature, slides along the Kenny Rogers-reminiscent groove. It’s quite silky, and even the electric guitar’s quivering is contagious.
“Love is a dangerous thing / Leap of faith through a fiery ring,” he sings, perhaps preparing himself for the inevitable lovestruck plummet. Hoot’s voice switches between more staccato-based delivery and a more lilting crescendo. It’s sweet with just enough tang.
