Melissa Bel – “sunshine”

Sometimes, a performance moves you so much, the wind escapes your lungs. Melissa Bel’s “sunshine” kicks right to the chest, rocking the rib cage, and tosses you to the floor. It’s gospel-tinged with a soothing, melodica piano undercurrent.

She takes you to church, and whether you want to or not, you find yourself kneeling at the altar (of music, that is). “Where is that sunshine you promised me,” she bellows at the start. She seeks redemption in her holy place, and the music simply pours from her pores.

Listen to “sunshine” below.
