It’s been almost five years since Cam’s debut record. I’ll never be OK with her treatment at radio ─ she should have like 10 smash hits already, but I digress. The follow-up is finally here, and it was well worth the wait. The Otherside flows with some of the best songwriting of the year, and the title cut is among her best.
“Don’t it hurt, don’t it sting, don’t you feel just like me / Don’t forget love of mine that I tried,” she sings on the pre-chorus. A twistedly dark mood seems to fall at her feet like impending fog, and her voice remains unwavering and strong. “And I know I’ve been cruel but I learned it from you / I was there on the otherside.”
