Dodie’s voice falls in hypnotic patterns. Whatever the framework, she glides effortlessly and seems to evoke the deepest well of human pain and delight. With “Rainbow,” originally released on her YouTube channel two years ago, she peels back the layers of shame the LGBTQ+ are so often saddled with and lets ‘em fall away.
“But to say that I’m a rainbow / To tell me that I’m bright / When I’m so used to feeling wrong / Well, it makes me feel alright,” her voice flows forth. Acoustic guitar sets the foundation, and strings soon wash right over her with refreshing spurts.
