Willie Jones – “Country Soul”

If country radio can play artists like Florida Georgia Line, who’ve repurposed Black music for their own gain long enough, then they should have no problems playing Willie Jones. One could argue he’s far more country than FGL has ever been. “Country Soul” ignites his debut record, Right Now, as a genre-blurring weekend-bender that name drops everyone from Willie Nelson to Tim Graw.

Right at the center, there oozes plenty of heart and soul. Jones is undeniable. “Can I get a little rock ‘n roll / Lil hip-hop, lil country soul,” he sings, checking all the boxes. It’s a no-fuss mainstream track and has all the signs to be a big ole hit.
