We’re all just trying our best. Even pre-pandemic, the days could creep along, peppered with a routine that was nothing special. And Izzy Heltai’s new song “Day Plan” does the same, sinking fully into a sea of same. The folk musician embraces these moments, even those that feel unproductive and unfulfilled.
“I told my neighbor I was lonesome,” he sings. He cowers in his awkwardness, lifted from an encounter when he “realized I hadn’t spoken to another person in two days,” and funnels it directly into one of his most incisive songs about humanity’s aching isolation.
