Chris Housman – “Cattle Call”

Country purists, unclench your jaw. Newcomer Chris Housman spins a genre-meddling take on Tex Owens’ “Cattle Call” (later famously recorded by Eddy Arnold), swapping out the distinctly western feel for a polished, hip-hop coating.

“The cattle are prowlin’ the coyotes are howlin’ / Way out where the dogies bawl,” he sings, a soft coo in his vocal. In lieu of a yodel, Housman leans into his whistle, a suitable replacement that gives his version a further boost.
