Nightly – “lover/loner”

In the social media age, one’s duality rides right on the surface. We all crave that online validation, but we just as frequently hide within ourselves. “Part of me wishes I was someone else,” sings Jonathan Capeci, one-third of alt-pop band Nightly. “While the other part’s always narcissistic as hell.”

Their new song “lover/loner” juggles this dichotomy, glistening synths flapping in dazzling designs around them. “The angel’s always trying to fight the devil on my shoulder,” continues Capeci. With such a captivating outersell, even the production underscores the constant juxtaposition of putting forth brightness into the world while feeling entirely anxious.
