A sad ghost on the cover art to Hayden McHugh’s “Forgettin’ Ya” seems appropriate. “I’ve been staring at your picture for what feels like the whole afternoon,” he sings. His desperation clings to his life like Halloween decorations left up until January. “I try to remind myself that it’s for the best,” he continues. He quickly unravels, his emotions erupting into red hot fireworks, yet the bedrock of glistening production deceives the senses. The listener is invited right out into the dance floor to cry in the club, and we’re perfectly OK with that.
