People are really sleeping on Maya Hawke as a musical artist, and it shows. Most known for her role in Stranger Things, the actor has been slowly trickling out singles (and a debut LP) the last couple of years. On “Blue Hippo,” she makes an indie bid with deeply plaintive, uprooting lyrics. “Come into my cave / Blue hippo into the black / I’m your problem child / Your matter of fact,” sings Hawke. Newly tangled in love, she pleads that opening up her heart doesn’t lead to absolute ruin. Well, you’ll never know if you don’t take that plunge.
