It’s hard being Joshua Bassett these days. The dark clouds conjured up from his ex-girlfriend on her debut LP cast a never-ending rainstorm. Bassett has since spoken his truth with a trio of songs and now returns with a follow-up. “Doppelgänger” expresses ongoing trouble with heartache, as he finds himself spiraling out of control after seeing someone who reminds him of the past.
“I guess I’m not as over you as I thought,” he sings in a flutter of guitar. His admission comes as a total relief, and in accepting, maybe the healing can actually begin.
