Covers are a dime a dozen. On the rare occasion, we stumble across a cover that does the original justice (and then some). Canadian rising star Mathew V invites the listener to the piano for a magical, deeply-yearning iteration of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One.” Even the original possesses an innately wistful melody, yet Mathew V manages to whisk you away on a flowing, whimsical, tearful walk through a relationship’s highs and lows. “Look at what we would be missing,” he sings. If you don’t cry, you don’t have a heart.
