Age brings wisdom, a special sort of enlightenment about how to live and endure. This becomes the backbone to Caroline Spence’s “The Next Good Time,” a deep cut from her new True North LP. Inspired by her late grandmother, the singer-songwriter applies wise words to her own ongoing struggles, from pressures of the music industry to wading through grief. “You can let your heart ache, but don’t you let it change / The way it’s beating, ’cause you’ll be needing / Every ounce of love I gave you,” sings Spence. It’s a lilting performance that packs a punch like a surprise left-hook jab.
