My Chemical Romance is back. What is this 2006? Well, sort of. “The Foundations of Decay” coerces the listener into a static slumber, prickly electric guitar grazing the literal eardrum of our collective consciousness. It tunnels into your soul and shakes you awake. A six-minute epic, it’s the band’s first song since 2014. Eight long years have led to this moment, almost a capsule of time and energy. “Let our bodies lay, while our hearts will stay,” sings frontman Gerard Way. “Let our blood in vein feel forgotten pain.” It’s an admission as much as it is a plea for the audience.
