There are few things as exhilarating as young love. But if you’re in the LGBTQ+ community, that exhilaration is met with an equal smattering of pained secrecy. With “Girls Make Me Wanna Die,” pop group The Aces pull together their various love stories, all the sorrow and the joy, into a confetti-bursting Pride anthem. “On a beautiful Sunday, we’re laying in sun rays,” reminisces Cristal Ramirez. “She’s wearing my beat-up jean jacket so damn well.” But on a dime, the emotional turmoil falls down like rain, as Ramirez continues, “One swipe of a finger, she leaves and I linger / She’s killing me with desire for someone else.” Oh, the tragedy of dating while queer.
