Despite the title to his new song, Charley Crockett is far from a clown. He’s one of the most prolific musicians working today with an always ambitious creative output that puts most others to shame. “I’m Just a Clown” finds the singer-songwriter getting down and dirty with a funk. As the lead-in to a forthcoming album (his second this year), The Man from Waco, its feel good arrangement contrasts against deeply mournful lyrics. He cuts himself deep especially in the second stanza, “The joker stands in the middle and turns a trick for you / Because sometimes you know it’s better to be thought of as a fool.”
