Demi Lovato – “29”

One of the greatest voices of this generation, Demi Lovato owns the darkness swirling in shape-shifting masses inside their bones. As such, they sharpen the proverbial songwriting bow to cast a heartbound arrow straight to an ex-boyfriend’s soul. “29” calls out a decades-long age gap; more specifically, some alleged it’s about her former relationship with Wilmer Valderrama (even though she hasn’t confirmed that yet). “Petal on the vine / Too young to drink wine / Just five years a bleeder / Student and a teacher,” she sings before sinking her teeth into the lyrical jugular: “Far from innocent / What the f***’s consent? / Numbers told you not to / But that didn’t stop you.”
