There are those relationships that either just rebounds or layovers. As in the case for Parker Matthews’ new song, he laments being a “Layover” by someone for whom he carries deeply. “Just your clothes on the floor, a couple mistakes / Emotional hangover,” he weeps in the suffocating darkness. “I wanted more / But you didn’t stay / Guess I was a layover.” Piano twists beneath ethereal light, a confession ripped from his very rib cage and left to dry in the sun. Later, he concludes that perhaps he give “my heart up way too easy.”
