Don’t let the title fool you. It’s far more than an Eat Pray Love sentimentality. Knowing Nikki Lane, it digs far below the surface. The refrain says it all: “I just want to live and love until the day I die,” she sings. Her lips carry a sharp sadness. Laced around an equally-lonesome arrangement, it’s all refreshingly heavy, yet somehow serene and soothing. It’s the acceptance that existence is so fleeting that glows through the skin. “You gotta hold on tight to what you got / You gotta do what’s right whether you like it or not,” she encourages. Life is what you make it, Lane seems to project, and therein lies the meaning of life.
