With “Novels About Vampires,” the singer-songwriter unleashes an ‘80s-style bloodsucker, its wings flapping like the percussion shooting across the sky. “I wanted a beautiful dead boy to show up at my door,” she howls. Her voice cuts, pokes, prods the skin like delicious fangs. But it’s unsurprising given Carpenter’s body of work. She has a way about her that just hits you and won’t let go. “Novels About Vampires” is no exception.
