With “Dead End,” pop artist Valories reminds the listener that it’s quite alright to feel hopeless. Bottoming out often leads to an enlightened state of being. The sun will inevitably shine again, and the sorrow you once felt will melt away into a flooded pond of icky bile. It’s never too far gone to turn back and let it happen to you. Whether that’s heartache or grief, those broken moments can be mended anew. “We were golden, what a shame / Caught in a chokehold, surrounded by echos / I can’t let go / My feet won’t touch the ground,” she sings. The sting never leaves her mind, but for the time being, it feels unconquerable. But as the old cliche goes: time heals all.
