Deer Fellow – “The Culprit”

Owning your mistakes is a tough pill to swallow. As is human nature, none of us want to really stare down at the man in the mirror. Deer Fellow 一 of Matt Salois and Alyssa Kelly 一 finds particular freedom in admitting to and processing the past. “I hate to admit all the crippling regrets,” Salois keeps his head down, as though in shame. But his voice deceives him. It’s laced with arsenic and the understanding that now he can be free as a hawk, swooping through the crisp winter sun. The arrangement is both chipper and harrowing, as though filtered through a gothic-folk lens. It’s equal parts magnificent and eerie with each note carrying a particular razor edge.
