“Among Other Things” isn’t your typical song. Instead of honing on one specific story or idea, Bella White cobbles together various lyrical knick-knacks and ornaments into a melange of imagery about her mother, wisdom, and other things. “How did I end up in this selfish town?” she ponders. “Bet you didn’t think I’d stick around / Here, the people smoke and the talk’s so cheap.” White’s voice emits an ache so deep that it shakes you to your core. The title cut to her brand new record, the mid-tempo certainly makes good on its title, representing exactly how life is: a scattershot of stories, peoples, and places.
