The music industry often launches sucker punches straight for your chin. And you can never predict when the next uppercut will come. That’s the emotional center for MisterWives’ new single “Nosebleeds,” the title track to their forthcoming fourth LP. “Wonder what it might be like, just for one night, I didn’t care what they all think,” hollers Mandy Lee. Synths cast a hypnotic static around her shoulders, and despite all the pummeling, she’s still standing, if only barely. “Thought I was different, just a carbon copy,” she also laments. The illusion has been broken, the one of superstardom, and now, reality settles in her bones. It’s a terrible truth, but she’s better for knowing.
