“Would it kill you to be happy?” Lori McKenna asks in the chorus. With “Killing Me,” featuring Hillary Lindsey, the singer-songwriter dissects a one-way relationship and how taxing it can be to give, give, give. “You know how to find the stone-cold darkness even when the stars are shinin’ at night,” she sings. “You always see the glass half empty even when I’m always pouring, pouring the wine.” The darkness seeps out from one to another, contaminating the relationship without meaning to. Possessing a ’90s indie spirit, the jangly tune anchors a forthcoming album titled 1988, which is the record McKenna wishes she would have made in her youth. Sign us up!
