M.A.G.S. is a rare talent. He’s a chameleon. He’s able to slither between genres with ease, as though he’s been performing for decades. His new album, Destroyer, is no exception. As is the case with “Red Sky,” an essential cut, he nosedives into rock-infused music like an arena pop star. “I felt the distance between us,” he barks. His lungs are at full capacity, allowing him to snarl and bite his teeth with invigorating recklessness. But it’s all calculated. He works within particular parameters but gives himself plenty of room to play. With each breath, he reaches his voice further into the cosmos. It’s truly not of this world.
