Kelleigh Bannen swings big with her new ballad “I Know Better Now.” Over heart-palpitating percussion and piano, the singer relays a story about navigating tough, down-and-out times and how those wounds lead to scars of wisdom. “You lean a lot harder onto faith when your luck runs out / The pain cuts to the nerve,” she sings in the chorus. “And I’m no stranger to the hurt / But I know better now.” Even though the storm was torrential, and it seemed like the end of the world at the time, the sunshine always comes sooner or later. Now, she basks in its soft rays as a far more self-assured and stronger person. It takes the bad to appreciate the good. Bannen should know.
